How convenient.

I admit that I had forgotten entirely about this journal, and I was just saying to myself the other day that I really ought to get back into writing, and then this turns up! So I hope I can stick with it this time and I apologize for disappearing.

Note: Yep, it's a response to a writing prompt when I was in a particularly sappy, and I'd like to think poetic, mood. Enjoy!

A moment. )

Note: I'm hoping that there's a workable seed of a plot in here, since I was going for that more than for characterization this time around. It's almost too short to justify posting, but I'm hoping that feedback will show whether it is worth expanding or not. Do let me know!

Why are you here? )

I want to apologize for disappearing on all of you! I got so busy with moving, and then class, and then just this and that and shuttling here and there that it completely slipped my mind until today at lunchtime. I was with a few classmates walking into the student union, and my friend Greg who works there called us over and showed us a soaked, almost destroyed spiral bound notebook, asking if it looked familiar to anyone. We all said no - after all, what good would such a notebook be anyway? But then he commented that he was worried about it because there was "a really good story at the beginning" and he hoped he could find who it belonged to - since there were pages of Chinese writing, he assumed it must belong to one of us. Wait, I thought, story? "Open it up, let us see it," I said. So he did.

And what do you know.

I don't know how it got so damaged, but it's legible still, and that comment, along with the following brief conversation ("I wanna know what happens! Let me know!") encouraged me to post what I have up here.

Now, to be fair, I don't know if I would consider it truly a story, as it has of yet little plot. And there's more than one of that type. I've written a few of these things, similar to what I posted earlier; I hope to garner feedback to determine which, if any, I should continue work on. Or I may somehow wind all of the characters I have come up with and begun developing together in a single storyline.

In the meantime, I do hope you enjoy the few minutes of reading I intend to provide. God bless!

So today was an interesting day. I'm in San Diego now with my grandpa and aunt and brother and mom and we're all visiting my grandma and staying at her house with her other ex-husband and it's just an odd combination to say the least. The problem with my family is that someone's always butting heads with someone else... but that's of no consequence here!

I just posted a not-very-good drabble that I wrote today during a free concert in the park... the concert was okay, the music was good but the singer annoyed me. I was very happy dancing to the instrumentals though. During the slow songs I worked on that writing in a little blue notebook I found in my pink bag. I don't know what I was thinking and I don't think it's very good, but maybe with some critique I can get it fixed up.

I'm considering posting some of my older writings here, but I'm not sure if I should. They seemed good when I wrote them but for the most part that was several years ago. Writings have a tendency to never seem quite as good years later as they did when you wrote them. Sometimes they seem much better, usually they seem much worse, but never do they seem quite the same. At any rate, that could be fun to get some fresh insight and see if I can't fix them up into something cool.

Hmm, it's kind of amusing that I'm writing all of this as if someone's actually watching my journal, when nobody is at all. I just posted in an add me community, so hopefully someone there will find me not-too-frightening and actually add me; that would be very cool indeed. In the meantime, I'm going to continue sitting here talking to myself!

Title: "Raver Girl"
Type: Drabble
Rating: G
Length: 228 words
Note: Completely pointless description of an unformed character, in a weak attempt to get an image into words. Not sure about some of the word choices I made - I wrote this while resting at a concert this evening. Any critique would be more than welcome and highly appreciated.

It was odd to see her there... )

"Normal" male names

Normal as in you might actually see someone with these names, as opposed to my "Fantasy" names list, which is comprised of made-up names (mine and others'). If you have any to add please feel free! Nicknames will be listed separately, as will alternate spellings (to a point). Names that I won't use are crossed out, favourites are bolded, ones that I don't like but might use anyway are small and names that would be easy to make cool variations on are italicized.
Cut for extreme length )

I don't feel like introducing myself so I'm just gonna jump right in.

My friend Chantal and I have been tossing an idea for a story around for a long time (on the order of a year and a half with pen never touching paper). Our characters are as yet unnamed, but we've taken to calling them after characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, so when/if we/I do ever actually start writing any of this story, that's probably how they will be called. However, this in no way means that our story is any sort of fanfiction. There are tributes to the characters temporary namesakes in the form of hair colours and the character "Sonic" is a track star, etcetera, but nothing that would pinpoint the series or the characters once the names are changed. These names are really only being used for expedience, because we can remember them. The story seed also doesn't have a title other than "Sonic Story"; again, this does not mean it's in any real way related to the Sonic series.

Which reminds me, I think I'm going to make another post sooner or later (right after this one if I don't get distracted which, let's be honest, I probably will), to be a collection of names. I'm always at a loss for names! It's terrible, really. But I digress...

I think I will start writing that story though. So if I do start posting things which those names now you know why. I should also say here that I'm notorious for not starting stories at the beginning, I always seem to be jumping in somewhere in the middle.

I've had other storylines and seeds running through my head recently, but sadly, most of those are, well, porn. If I get around to writing any of those I'll probably post those as well, but I'll be sure to mark them as adult content and post clear warnings.

I have a strange habit of using British spelling and in limited circumstances, terminology. I am, however, decisively American. Don't ask. I don't know.

I'm currently looking for resource communities (things along the line of the currently featured [info]food_in_fiction), because those are just cool. If you have any you'd like to suggest, I would greatly appreciate it.
